Toronto’s one-of-a-kind six-piece band, The Free Label, are celebrating its hometown, headlining show at The Axis Club tonight with the release of two highly anticipated singles, “Dancing On Your Own” and “GALS4U.” Solidifying the band as modern disco revivalists, the brand new tracks launch the unstoppable sextet into their next chapter — one that follows an exigent viral success that garnered the group global recognition for their unmistakable, signature sound.
Written and produced by the band, “Dancing On Your Own” and “GALS4U” lean into the roots of disco dancehalls. Driven by catchy, rhythmic beats, both tracks prove that The Free Label is just getting started.
“The past year has been more wild than we could have ever imagined and we’re so excited for what’s to come,” said the band. “We’re proud of these songs because we built them together and they show fans where we’re going and how we’re growing. They were inspired by our shows all around the world and are meant to get people up and dancing. We can’t wait to see the magic they bring to an audience when we play them live!”
Consisting of Josh Daniel, Matthew Fantini, Malik Mungo, Cole Mendez, Jacob Thompson and Jason Martin,The Free Label has captivated audiences worldwide with their infectious blend of 70s disco, 90s R&B and high-energy funk. The multi-instrumentalists have an undeniable chemistry that makes every show unforgettable.
“One thing we hear a lot is that our fans can tell we’re actually best friends and it’s amazing to know that translates on stage,” said the band. “Our dynamic is more than just getting along, we love each other and want that to be the thing that people take away from our shows; we want everyone to leave feeling optimistic that a future where people want the best for each other is possible.”
With the 2024 release of their highly anticipated album Songs for Sienna, the band blew-up compliments of live performance video of fan-favourite track “Change Your Mind.” Surpassing 15 million views across social media and earning a spot on the Amazon Music Billboard in Toronto, the unexpected viral success put the band on the map overnight, allowing them to gain fans from across the globe.
Since releasing their debut single, “All Night,” in 2019, the band has hosted sold out shows in Europe, North America and Australia, playing notable festivals like Mariposa Folk Festival, Laketown Shakedown, the Calgary Stampede and SXSW. Fans eager to experience this one-of-a-kind live show can catch the band at the following dates this summer, and expect even more new music coming soon.
