THE SWEET KILL – “FUCK LOVE” & “ONE LOVE”
A Spill Exclusive Music Premiere
The Sweet Kill step up their game for 2019, with an ambitious double Valentines Day release of singles “One Love” and “Fuck Love”. While both tracks cover the topic of love, they do so in very different ways; musically and thematically going in very different directions, showcasing the producing chops of band mastermind Pete Mills.
Mills describes the creative and emotional process behind βOne Loveβ:
Overcoming one’s hatred of relationships by finding the βoneβ that makes sense of the suffering. Through the fickleness and flailing of love, this rapport is a luxury involving mutual inclusivity through a commitment to the unconditional. A new salvation and respite from the childish battle of the sexes, overcoming jealousy and other justified negative emotions. Inclusively loving to all rather than the exclusive confine of a societal norm or religious construct.”
While “One Love“ takes influences from Latin rhythms and tunes, with acoustic guitars creating a romantic melody designed to get the listeners dancing, βFuck Loveβ touches the other side of the emotion. The tracks giving us the full dimensionality of the human phenomenological experience of love.
Unlike the title might suggest, βFuck loveβ Β is upbeat and party friendly rather than being a dark song. Below the surface, however, the track does tackle the very real issues of the toxicity that can come from relationships if you look at that other person as your whole world, Mills explains: “The start of a relationship feels so good but when the milk goes sour you keep drinking it, hoping it’ll taste like it once did. Thereβs always a sob story, lovers hang onto perpetuating the pain, which defines future relationships.β
βFuck loveβ implores the listener not to fall into the pitfalls of thinking “love is necessary to be happy”, but rather a healthy and happy relationship will come once YOU are happy and healthy. The beat builds into an atmospheric peak, easily beckoning a sing-along anthem for self-love before anything else. Stream the singles below!
