Widowspeak
The Jacket
Captured Tracks
Widowspeaks’ fifth album The Jacket feels as though it’s a peek into the heart of the band, filled with a dreamy vulnerability. Molly Hamilton’s gentle and soothing vocals carry within them stories of growth, patience, and lessons that can only come from time spent simply living.
While we may never know the events that transcribed in order for Widowspeaks’ lyrics for “The Drive”: “You could never really be/What you never really wanted to be”, or for “Slow Dance”: “The world has moved on/But you know you were loved/Let that be enough”, it’s nostalgic of an intimate reliving of a memory— this time through clearer eyes.
The consistency of the vocals are reminiscent of the lens through which these stories are told, with acceptance for their reality, while the changing instrumentals are representative of the various environments being remembered.
Overall, the album is a welcoming experience, with emotive melodies which fittingly capture melancholy.
