Is there anything wrong when the music of a certain artist/band seems to follow in the footsteps of another?
Not really, particularly if it is the footsteps of a great one, like in this case, late great Eliot Smith, and there is a personal, individual take there that makes it distinct from being just a simple copy. That is where we come to Chicago’s Adam Schubert, aka Ulna, and his latest album simply titled Gazebo.
Sure, Schubert does follow the trace left by Smith and exhibits that nineties feel in his music (the better part of it) and couples it with a sound of bands like Modest Mouse (at their more gentle moments), but also exhibits enough of his own personality and musical capabilities to have the full right to present it to listeners and have them enjoy it.
