THE WOGGLES
TIME HAS COME
WICKED COOL RECORDS
The Woggles have been making music for over 30 years, and Time Has Come is their first full length album since 2017’s Tally Ho! The Woggles are not trying to reinvent themselves with Time Has Come. They do what they do and they do it well. This is pure garage rock mixed with pop and punk. It all combines together to make a wonderful noise of rock ‘n’ roll.
This is pure energy and fun. It is an album full of characters and stories. The Woggles even introduce a new dance sensation, “Do The Slug”, to keep the party going, before “Mr. Last Chance” takes over the fun. Even a song with a title like “Trouble Loves Me” is not a self-pitying lament, but a stand your ground rocker. The vocals answering Manfred add a sense of urgency to the song and the end result reminds one of Horslips’ “Trouble (With A Capital T)”. Elsewhere Manfred gives the warning “Never Get Over Me”. Again, there is humour to the song, even though it is a classic break-up song.
The album ends with the reflective “Nothing More To Say”, which starts off with a bit of a samba beat. It is the perfect way to end the album. Again, not to be taken too seriously, and it leaves the album with a bit of a smile. A song of unrequited love, but still showing strength. That is the way to go out. It really does sum up the album beautifully.
The Woggles are not the same band they were 30 years ago. They, however, keep the spirit going and continue to produce their own brand of garage rock. Guitars are at the forefront, but don’t overlook their tight rhythm section and Manfred’s passionate and growling vocals. These guys still know how to rock and still produce tight exciting rock ‘n’ roll. It is a welcome break from the world and in some ways a travel back in time. The world needs The Woggles and their brand of rocking energy.
