MEET THE LOSTINES
GAR HOLE RECORDS
Picking up a sound from any of the past decades, a ‘blast from the past’, if you will, and then recreating that sound for modern times, is not as easy as it might seem. You have to know that ‘old’ sound completely and have the right feel for those ‘modern’ touches that will make such a combination work as it should. The Lostines, New Orleans duo of singer-songwriters Casey Jane Reece-Kaigler and Camille Wind Weatherford take such a route on their debut album Meet The Lostines, and make it sound both ‘old’ and ‘modernβ, quite an achievement for a debut album.
The duo express their love for the pop rock sound of the late 50s and early 60s, as if they took a classic car from 1959, disassembling it first, and then reconstructing it meticulously and adding all the right touches of modern sound and technology to make it current, also adding elements that seemingly don’t belong there like the country/Cajun arrangement of “After Party”.
Yet with all old/new elements it is the duo’s excellent songwriting and immaculate harmonies that are the key delight here, making Meet The Lostines a true find.
