Bristol England made a name itself with quite a few bands, and particularly with the Sarah Records roster at its prime. What would the latter mean? Melody at the forefront, chiming guitars and some nifty harmonies to boot.

On their self-titled debut album, Bristol’s The Cindys do take that concept, but sound like they sourced it from some other sources such as Alex Chilton’s Big Star, Beat Happening, and a range of artists from New Zealand’s Flying Nun records, particularly The Clean.

Derivative? Certainly not, as The Cindys neatly dissect their sources and then arrange them to their liking and pleasure sounding their own throughout the album. At the same time, for their album debut they didn’t want to overstay their welcome keeping the album relatively brief at seven songs, at the same time keeping the listener expecting more to come.

The Cindys just might be that current tonic to keep the guitar-oriented melody rock alive and well.
