SUEDE
ANTIDEPRESSANTS
BMG

Britpop legends Suede are back again with their newest record, Antidepressants. It is their first album since 2022’s Autofiction. Fans of the band will be delighted with Antidepressants.
Antidepressants sees Suede channelling an ‘80s sound, particularly post-punk. “Disintegrate” explosively opens the record with a tenacious swagger and rocking instrumentation. Brett Anderson’s voice is magnificent and captivates the listener throughout the runtime. “The Sound and the Summer” has an entrancing, timeless feel to it. Anderson’s vocals are endearingly commanding, the guitar riffs are hypnotically catchy, and the chorus is grand and euphoric. “Trance State” lives up to its name. The phenomenal production, immersive atmosphere, the blending of post-punk with gothic rock, and the darkly melodic instrumentation will put the listener in a trance. It feels like a mixture of Suede, The Cure, and New Order. In “Dancing with the Europeans”, Anderson’s voice sounds just as fantastic as it did back in the ‘90s. Additionally, the chorus is undeniably addictive and will be stuck in your head for quite a while.
Other highlights include “June Rain” and the title track. “June Rain” is a beautifully heartwarming and touching ballad. Lyrically and vocally, this track is the most emotionally powerful from the record. “Antidepressants” is full of exuberant energy, a punk attitude, thrillingly stylish guitar riffs, and an angsty noir sound that is incredibly catchy. The upbeat chorus is sure to brighten your day, especially the repeated line “Singing a song while I’m happy”
Overall, Antidepressants is a nice throwback to ‘80s post-punk music.
