There are certain things that always exude familiarity, warmth, and just simply a good feeling. The first thing that could come to mind in that respect is a Sunday family lunch. Not time to eat, yet? Well then, you just might go for Quinn DeVeaux and his latest album Book of Soul.

You see, DeVeaux’s hot stew of deep soul, blues, country, you name it, has got all that familiarity, warmth, and overall good feeling you might be looking for.

Sure, DeVeaux wrote all the tracks here and they all sound quite familiar, but they are still new and fresh, and all for a very simple reason. DeVeaux and The Blue Beat Review have all those music roots genres in their pinkies, they live and breathe them, and out come some mellifluous sounds that exhibit knowledge, confidence, and the right feel. True soul, if you wish.

Some might complain that it has all been done before. Sure, but so what? Sometimes it is exactly what the doctor ordered, like that hot bowl of soup that opens so many Sunday family lunches.

Don’t know what to play after Leon Bridges or you just can’t find one of Al Green’s classics? Stick DeVeaux’s Book of Soul on, it will certainly do the trick.
