PRISM SHORES
OUT FROM UNDERNEATH
MERITORIO RECORDS
If you would want to characterize the state of interesting indie pop/rock at the start of 2025, you probably wouldn’t have to go further than Montreal’s Prism Shores and their new album Out From Underneath.
Here, the quartet seems to have picked up and digested all the cool, melody-inflected rock that came before them – from the English jangle of Sarah Records with some edgy shoegaze guitars, quirky melody runs akin to the like of New Zealand’s The Chills and Clean, up to melody runs of Elephant 6 artist of your choice from mid-90s on.
And that musical digest Prism Shores brings works so well here, both for them and anybody who decides to take a cursory listen, and that cursory listen just might turn into something permanent.
It is all thought out and presented so well that it in many ways revitalizes that indie rock tag that many thought was becoming jaded.
