SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: PETER FRAMPTON – PETER FRAMPTON AT ROYAL ALBERT HALL

Peter Frampton

PETER FRAMPTON
PETER FRAMPTON AT ROYAL ALBERT HALL
UMR/ISLAND RECORDS

British Grammy-winning artist and accomplished singer-songwriter and guitar player Peter Frampton released a new CD album, Peter Frampton At Royal Albert Hall. The album features nine of the songs Frampton performed to an ecstatic, sold-out crowd during his November 2022 concert.

Some tracks include “Show Me The Way,” “Baby, I Love Your Way,” and “Do You Feel Like We Do,” which was the only song the entire band wrote together.

Peter Frampton’s alto tenor voice can still leave you mesmerized. “Baby, I Love Your Way” showcases his lowest register, while “All I Want to Be (Is By Your Side)” lets you know this 73-year-old rocker can still hit those high vocal notes.

What is surprising about this 70s rocker playlist is the only cover song from Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia On My Mind.” It is performed solely as a bluesy instrumental, one of the highlights from the setlist, and certainly shows the versatility of Frampton and his band.

Frampton’s jazz-inspired bluesy guitar reminds you of the rich legacy this funky musician can graciously offer to any recording. His guitar sounds just as good, if not better than his early 1976 Frampton Comes Alive album, which won him a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Pop Performance.

If you like being serenaded by the musical wah-wah sounds of a guitar talk box and are a music connoisseur, you will like the sounds of  Peter Frampton At Royal Albert Hall.

My love for music and writing has led me to be a music journalist. My favorite music era is the 70s. I want to help save the music from that era, so it is not forgotten, and writing about it helps me do that.
