SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: MO KENNEY – FROM NOWHERE

Mo Kenney (they/them) is up to their fifth album titled From Nowhere. Yet, from wherever that is, Juno-nominated songwriter’s music here is coming from somewhere good.

Presenting all the usual as well as unusual elements that comprise modern singer-songwriter music these days, Kenney fits different musical elements to suit their lyrical vision and all those ‘fittings’ seem to fall in all the right places here with arranging touches that veer from sparse, like on “Evening Dream” to those more detailed and embellished like on “Signs Of Life”.

But all Kenney does here seems to be exactly where it should be, making their music sound, well, exactly as it should, and maybe this time around that Juno nomination will turn into an award. From Nowhere is quite close to that.
