DAVID GARLAND
THE SPARK
INDEPENDENT

Looking at the track records of many artists, it is no wonder anymore that some old hands keep on producing music at later stages in their life. Some keep making great music, some don’t, and others keep making great music but don’t fully get the credit they deserve.
The latter case in point is David Garland, who some know well as a radio and podcast host, but who is also a composer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and a visual artist, who has been quietly producing some excellent music, as The Spark, his latest offering amply shows.
A seemingly quiet, sublime album took a while to be formed, as it is dedicated to Garland’s late wife who passed away due to cancer six years ago. That feeling of loss and grief amply describes the process of healing everybody has to go through at some point in their life. It is a tough thing for artists to adequately describe such feelings through music, but Garland obviously has both the experience, and musical and lyrical ability to be able to express such a tragic experience in a manner that his listeners can relate.
