COMEBACK KID
TROUBLE
NEW DAMAGE RECORDS/SHARPTONE RECORDS
Comeback Kid has always been a band dedicated to moving upward on their own terms. When the Winnipeg beloved band released their previous album, Heavy Steps, in 2022, they not only demonstrated their ability to maintain the sound they had worked tirelessly on for the previous 24 years, but also added substance and depth to something so fast, furious, and discontented.
Now the band is stretching their agitated creative wings on their new EP, Trouble. Setting out to create a palate cleanser from their past material, Comeback Kid channels their nuanced hard-hitting creative sound and layered volitional shifts of upbeat elements within the pockets of the aggressive walls of their four new tracks. Produced and recorded by the band and John Paul Peters (Cancer Bats), and mixed and mastered by Will Putney, Comeback Kid has created a sound that pushes past the antagonistic soundscapes that they have created before in the past.
Trouble starts with βTrouble In The Winners Circle” and βDisruptionβ. Dynamically balancing ferocity and the essence of the purest hardcore within its instrumental passages, vocalist Andren Neufeld and the band show they are the best in the business when it comes to articulating introspection and melodic rage within the same existence. This cadence continues to permeate within the energies of the EP with remaining tracks, βChompin At The Bitβ and βBreaking And Bruised.β Storming the gates with a barrage of high-octane guitar riffs and intertwining with Neufeldβs distinct powerful delivery, while Comeback Kid keeps the momentum unique and zealous pacing going, Trouble creates this delicate yet chaotic energy thatβs impossible to ignore or resist from start to finish.
Trouble offers a slice of monstrous swagger and bounce for a band that is wanting to try something a bit different. It works for an act that is not trying to overstep in their style too much but just enough to clean off a few edges but still sound like themselves.
