COLOR GREEN
FOOL’S PARADE
NEW WEST RECORDS
Modern psych rock is tagged as such because it often includes a number of other musical elements that the initial psych rock from its late 60s heyday possibly didn’t have. Think of all such elements that bands and artists like Tame Impala have in their music these days.
Based on their latest album Fool’s Parade, you can easily include Los Angeles psych quartet Color Green. Within the nine songs here, the band include all the best elements of bygone psych – from The Grateful Dead to Steve Miller (by the way of Mamas & Papas male/female harmonies) and beyond, adding the current sense of indie rock and current production capabilities.
And it all works as a charm as the band have also been able to transfer some of the feel of their live shows for which they have gained some considerable reputation.
The album might be titled Fool’s Parade, but Color Green are no musical fools and can certainly rank among more promising current psych rockers.
