BEAR PARK – HEAD OF THE UNITED STATES
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE ALBUM PREMIERE
Newcastle upon Tyne, “Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys don’t surf here” but Bear Park do.
With their sharp suits, killer looks and mesmerising hooks, Bear Park release their debut album overflowing with guitar-fuelled, garage-driven, surf-powered songs. Produced by none other than Meister Batterist Gary Powell (Libertines) in Newcastle’s Blast Studios and the Libertines’ very own Albion rooms.
Asked about the making of the album, Bears singer Shay said: “Its been amazing working with Gary and the other Libertines, getting the right feel to the songs has been hard but with Gary and our two magical engineers, Jason at the Albion Rooms and Andy at Blast, we hope we have managed to deliver an album our fans will enjoy.” Guitarist and string player, Guy, added “Gary and Eric (Formally Factory Records) from our record label have continually pushed us hard, but its been worth it. When the record company says some songs are not quite there its a miserable feeling but looking back and listening to the final album they were right. We’ve really upped our game and done something we can be proud of.” Drummer Adam added “At first it was terrifying playing in front of Gary, a classically trained musician and composer in his own right, but he made me feel at home and comfortable. Before we knew it we were dancing like whirling dervishes to our own songs, the whole experience has been gas.”
Gary Powell chimed in “For this album I didn’t need headphones but I did need heavy-duty dancing shoes! Its been a journey of delights working with these guys, I love their live show, performance and the respect they have for their fans as well as their openness to working on their songs in the studio. It’s been a pleasure working with them, great band, great album and great guys!’
It’s an album of fun, fun, fun that you’ll play all through the summer sun. Garage pop with no pretence, all puppy love and teenage angst. Listening to the music it’s no wonder that Bear Park is the band the boys want to be in! It’s a boss album with boss tunes on a boss label and just the sort of album you would expect from Gary, Eric and the 25 Hour Convenience Store. An indie band with their own take on love, life and loss.
