Danielle Stech-Homsy might not be a big fan of social media (many won’t blame her), but she is not exactly a newcomer. As Rio en Medio, she previously made a bit of a name for herself with music that some would consider ‘straightforward’ singer-songwriter fare.

Now working as The Blue Knots with an album titled Becoming Noise, Stech-Homsy in many ways seems to reinvent herself, as, this time around, it is just her and keyboards and synths (mostly the latter). Maybe the indications of what was coming could be found in her previous collaborations, which include Devendra Banhart, Grizzly Bear, and CocoRosie, all artists that had no fear of venturing into experimentation.

Yet here Stech-Homsy seems to have no problem with this switch or of making her music electronically ‘sparse’ as her songs still have an excellent melodic element to carry them through with quite some ease. The singer-songwriter side of things is still here, just wrapped up in something else beyond acoustic instruments.
