JONO McCLEERY
RECONCILE
SONAR KOLLEKTIV
It is a bit of a misnomer to label Jono McCleery as a singer/songwriter, at least in that traditional early-70S sense. McCleery, who has been around for a while now, seems to have only one ‘genre’ in mind when he writes songsβgood music. It can be folk, jazz, bossa nova, electronics, soul, or anything else that tickles his fancy, and he often does it within a single song, possibly ones on the quieter side.
This concept has worked well for him so far, but he seems to have taken that concept one step further on his latest release Reconcile, where the songs are even more sophisticated, more subtle, and even more focused. The acoustic instruments are predominant, and the electronics take a subtler role, underlying the quality of both McCleery’s songwriting and lyrics.
Another excellent release from an artist that deserves more attention.
