High Roller might officially be Sima Cunningham’s debut solo album, but the Chicago artist has already been making a name with that city’s duo Finom, as well as one more prominent Chicago resident – Jeff Tweedy.

Those two names can actually indicate the direction Cunningham is taking on High Roller, and that is a much broader spectrum that just what is considered by many to fall under the ‘standard’ singer-songwriter category.

Sure, Cunningham takes that route too, like on “Your Bones,” but like Tweedy, whom she worked with, she goes wherever her fancy takes her, whether it is the more upbeat title track, or Americana touches of “Give Up” or anywhere else for that matter.

Often, artists with more than one musical interest are not fully apt at more than one style, but Cunningham doesn’t seem to have that problem here, as she breezes through anything she tackles with ease and confidence that just creates very good music that she has come up with here.
