DANIEL NUNNELEE
JUNE, BABY
INDEPENDENT
It just might be the case that Daniel Nunnelee, as a true Southerner (born in Memphis, and now located in Nashville), has decided to call his debut album June, Baby after the cover of a Merle Haggard/Willie Nelson classic, where he includes a sample of his grandmother’s voice. Or there might be any other reason he has decided to do so, but the 10 tracks here, musically, do have that summery vibe throughout, with Nunnelee’s lyrics going beyond.
It is the well-thought-out music that charms the most here, have less to do with his Nashville surroundings and more with a combination of modern indie rock with just touches of indie folk for good measure. Just try the very rocking “Kick Down the Door”.
An assuring and inspiring debut that shows why Nunnelee has already so many likes and followers on Tik Tok. A promise of even better things to come.
