Strange Pilgrim is Oregon-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Josh Barnhart who already made a bit of a name for himself as a drummer for Port O’Brien, and a number of other West Coast bands.

Barnhart took a solo flight back with this self-titled album, which now gets its first vinyl release. The album has all the signs of another great West Coast album that will have its staunch following, sales or no sales.

The reasons for that are certainly in that West Coast tag, languid, elongated melodies and guitar lines with subdued backing that fits them exactly the way they should. With stellar band support that includes his father (who did arrangements for The Beach Boys and CSNY among others), Barnhart was able to fit his personal musical vision in that distinctive sound and not sound like a copycat at the same time.

This is the kind of stuff cult followings are made of.
