SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: VARIOUS ARTISTS – BROWN ACID: THE ELEVENTH TRIP

Brown Acid

Various Artists
Brown Acid: The Eleventh Trip
RidingEasy Records

There could be a few reasons why RidingEasy Records have had 11 runs with their ‘Brown Acid’ series so far, but two pop out as key. One is that their crate diggers have had great knowledge and luck to come up with some true gems out of the piles of old records containing late heavy psych, hard rock and proto-metal. The other is that there are quite a few fans of the genre out there that will collect anything that even remotely falls within this or these categories.

So far, it seems that these two reasons more or less coincided. Still, you have to wonder how much quality stuff is out there, such as Larry Lynn and his “Diamond Lady,” or Debb Johnson’s “Dancing In The Ruins” presented here. After all, at some point the well has to start going dry. On the basis of The Eleventh Trip,’ RidingEasy have still a way to go, but this time around there might be one or two tracks more than all the fans will care about. Still, it is a very consistent batch that has a few gems to offer.

If you have all or most of the previous releases in the series, you are going to get this one too. But if you are just a starter, maybe the previous Tenth Trip is a good place to start. In the end, if you like it, you’ll probably get this one too. As well as the others.
