TEKE::TEKE
HAGATA DELUX
KILL ROCK STARS

Labeling Montreal’s Teke::Teke can be a tricky thing. With seven members, it is more a musical collective than a band. On the other, most critics label them as a psych rock band, but with so many musical elements they throw in, often in a single song, that could be a sort of a misnomer.
That is probably why their Hagata album from 2023 left many listeners puzzled, but at the same time delighted by the sounds they were able to hear there. Now, the band/collective has decided to come up with a deluxe version of that album that features five reinterpretations of Hagata songs, including remixes by Holy Fuck and SUUNS, an entirely new track “Meimu,” and a limited-edition vinyl release that sees a collection of Hagata-era tunes available on vinyl for the first time. The album also includes Sei’s own boom bap-ified rework of Hagata’s eastern-flavored standout “Gotoku Lemon.”
Want more? there is a cover of Unwound’s “Corpse Pose,” a Japanese version of The Clash tune “Bankrobber,” their contribution from a Dungeons & Dragons compilation, and a cover of Takeshi Terauchi’s “Chidori.” Basically, those who picked up the original album will love it, but at the same time, it is a perfect introduction to novices.
