CFCF Releases Free Mixtape

Montreal-based DJ CFCF will be releasing his new mixtape, *Slow R & B For Zellers Locations Canada-Wide, *as a free digital download. It is a 40 minute mix full of department-store ready tracks, chopped and screwed just enough to make anyone’s shopping experience a little bit funkier.
*The Fader* says that the mix sounds like wandering through a department store – musically personified. With sultry crooners, sexy synths and splashy snares, it’s the kind of muzak that evokes feelings deeper than tedium.

Tracey Thorn Remix EP Out on August 31

Tracey Thorn has announced that her new digital EP, Opposites, will be available for download on August 31. The EP will feature new, experimental remixes of songs from her latest full-length album, Love And Its Opposite.
"People often only remember the dance remixes I have been involved with, and forget the great futuristic re-works of my voice over the years by people like Photek, Omni Trio and Howie B” says Thorn.
“If my versions of my songs are often plain and direct, these mixes add question marks and blind alleys, and I like that. It adds a different colour and makes them closer to my work with Massive Attack perhaps."
Vision Question has remixed Thorn’s ‘Swimming’, turning the song into a psychedelic journey through the West Coast. WALLS – the love child of Alessio Natalizia and Allez-Allez blogger San Willis – are also on the EP, remixing Thorn’s ‘Kentish Town’. Blue Daisy also takes on a song from Love And Its Opposite, reworking ‘Late in the Afternoon’ into a dub-step infused club track.
For more information and to download the Opposites, visit Tracey Thorn’s blog at: http://www.traceythorn.com/.

Sharon Little’s Paper Doll Available Early 2011

Sharon Little’s upcoming sophomore album, Paper Doll, sets out to make a statement about the mindset that female performers today are required to adopt. With a blend of pop, rock, R ‘n’ B and electronica, Paper Doll proclaims that women artists be judged on their musical abilities rather than the way they look.
"It often seems that female artists have to look and act in a certain way in order to be successful - like they're paper dolls and society or 'the business' just slaps these images on them," says Little.
“We have these young girls acting and dressing in a very overly-sexual way; like they're grown women - is that their idea, or have they been told to look and act that way in order to sell themselves? Either way, it's just sad”.
If you haven’t heard of Sharon Little, you’ve probably already heard her music. She’s become a television fixture, having been featured in primetime shows like CSI:NY, The Cleaner and NUMB3RS.
Paper Doll, Little’s first album since her debut in 2008, will be produced by Grammy Award-winner Don Was. He has worked with some of the biggest names in show business, including the Rolling Stones and Bonnie Raitt. Together, Was and Little have created a phenomenal product that is expected to garner a great deal of attention from music critics all over North America.
Before Paper Doll’s release at the beginning of 2011, Little will release an EP titled Sneak Peek. Until then, you get an even sneakier peek by downloading Paper Doll’s title track from SharonLittle.com

Bryan Ferry Reunites with Roxy Music on Olympia

Former Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry will release his first album in three years on October 26, 2010. Titled Olympia, the album will feature musical contributions from Groove Armada, Scissor Sisters, Flea, and Marcus Miller – and promises to be Ferry’s most eclectic album yet.
Olympia is a follow-up to the Ferry’s 2007 release, Dylanesque. On the album, Ferry covers a heart-wrenching rendition of Tim Buckley’s “Song to the Siren” and an homage to Traffic with a cover of “No Face, No Name, No Number”. Original songs on the album include collaborations with Groove Armada (“Shameless”) and Scissor Sisters (“Heartache by Numbers”).
This will be the first time that Roxy Music has reunited for a record since For Your Pleasure was released in 1973. Since the band scrapped its plans to play at London’s Lovebox Festival this year, Olympia may be your last chance to hear Roxy Music to perform as a single unit.
“You Can Dance”, the first single off Olympia, has already become a club hit in Europe and will be released in Canada on August 10.

Dirty Projectors Collaborate With Bjork on Mount Wittenberg Orca

Dirty Projectors have teamed up with Bjork to create their most staggering collaboration yet. Mount Wittenberg Orca is a twenty-minute collection of seven songs that aims to be unlike anything the music world has ever seen from Dirty Projectors.
Rather than relying on the guitars and drums that were so prevalent on Bitte Orca, Mount Wittenberg Orca is all about the vocals. The obsession with vocal harmonies that Dirty Projectors developed while recording Bitte Orca is reignited on the EP, set softly against Nat Baldwin’s brooding bass.
Bjork and David Longstreth brainstormed the album during a conversation about the origins of Italian opera, but each of their collaborations on Mount Wittenberg Orca is heavily influenced by early ‘50s rock and roll. Bjork sings lead on half of the songs on the album, lending her unmistakable emotion and sophistication to this remarkable collaborative project.
Currently, Mount Wittenberg Orca is available only as a digital download. All proceeds from the album will be donated the National Geographic Society’s Ocean Initiative. For more information, visit: www.mountwittenbergorca.com

You Say Party Issues Statement to Supporters

After the passing of Devon Clifford, drummer for the dance-punk band You Say Party, We Say Die, the band was left at a crossroads. Since the tragedy struck, You Say Party has undergone several changes that include seeing current members quitting, former members reuniting and tour dates being scheduled.
To announce these changes, the band has released an official statement:
To all of our fans and supporters,
Heartfelt thanks for all the messages of love and condolences that you have sent since Devon’s passing. We have drawn a lot of strength from these as we navigate this difficult time. Losing Devon has been a profound loss for the family this band has grown to become. We have taken some time out of the spotlight these last few months to heal, process, reflect and reevaluate the future of this band.
We have talked at great length with each other and our families and friends about the future. Devon’s parents have encouraged us to continue on and given us their blessing. It is their opinion (as well as ours) that Devon would never have wanted his death to end the band. He would have wanted us to continue on.
In the time between Devon’s passing and this statement, we have all reflected upon our personal lives. Krista has decided that her time with us has come to an end as she no longer desires the long drives, poor sleeps and revolting selection of road food. Instead she’s choosing a home, a garden, some gluten-free baking and a proper education. We will miss Krista very much and she remains a part of our lives.
We have turned to our good friends and former tour-mates Robert Andow and Bobby Siadat of Vancouver band “Gang Violence” to play keyboards and drums This new line up will continue the tradition of excellent live shows and sweaty dance floors, with new strength and a renewed commitment to music and touring. The 5 of us look forward to carrying the spirit of our friend Devon with us everywhere.
The cancelled European tour is being rescheduled for this fall and we will announce the dates as soon as possible. We are also planning select shows for the rest of 2010.
Out of respect for Devon and the evolution of life, today we announce that we will no longer be known as “You Say Party! We Say Die!” but instead as simply “You Say Party”.
Lately, we’ve been thinking a lot about the words and meanings we’ve spoken through our music. To return you to the core message of our band, we present the first track “There is XXXX (Within My Heart)” as the next single in North America.
With XXXX and light.

New Pete Yorn Album on Sept. 28

On Sept. 28, Pete Yorn will be releasing his sixth studio album, a self-titled collection of 11 brand new songs.
The album is the product of a spontaneous recording session with producer Frank Black back in 2008. While Yorn was putting the final touches on Black & White in Nebraska, he received a phone call from Black. The former Pixies founder wanted to jam with Yorn, who was so excited about experiment with Black that he dropped everything and flew to Salem, Oregon to record some new tunes.
“Pete told me he wanted to better define himself as an artist,” Black says. “And, to his artistic credit, Pete took his songwriting to a fearless and raw place”.
The album’s first single will be “Sans Fear”, a song that recollects the final days of a failing relationship with harsh vocals and honest storytelling. The rest of Pete Yorn will explore a variety of topics that can be identified with by fans from every walk of life. Love, happiness and appreciating life are reoccurring themes on the album, and listeners will feel as though Yorn is sitting right next to them on their couch.
Yorn has also announced that he will be embarking on a tour in the fall to promote the release of the album. Stay tuned for tour dates.

Drifts EP Reinvents CFCF’s Continent

DJ and electronic artist CFCF follows up his debut album Continent with a brand new EP called Drifts. Out now, the release consists of six of CFCF’s tracks, remixed by Canadian DJs and artists.
CFCF is best known for remixing the tracks of other artists, including Crystal Castles, Owen Pallett, HEALTH and Hearts Revolution. Now, CFCF is on the receiving end of the remix exchange, as Junior Boys Nacho Lovers and Mathamagic have put their own spins on some of CFCF’s most popular tracks, including “Big Love” and “Come Closer”.
In an interview with The Fader, CFCF notes his inspiration for Continent: “There's definitely a feeling I try to capture, this feeling of the last day of school, or it could be a decade I didn't even live in. It doesn't have to be specific to me.”
Using ’80s synth sounds and minor chord melodies, he created a musical ephemera, evoking young, childhood memories.
Drifts Tracklisting

2. Come Closer (Nacho Lovers Remix)
3. Come Closer (Azari & III Remix)
4. Letters Home (Memoryhouse Remix)

Orbital Makes Comeback with Two New Tracks

It has been almost one year since the legendary electronic duo Orbital made its live comeback in 2009’s Big Chill Festival. Fans have eagerly awaited fresh recorded material from the newly-reformed band and the time has finally come.
On June 20, Orbital released its first new material since 2004, a double A-side single titled “Don’t Stop Me/The Gun is Good”. The tracks are surprising while still conveying Orbital’s signature sound, causing critics to point out the band’s ability to consistently impress them.
Orbital has also embarked on a summer tour, taking them across the worldwide summer festival circus. From L.A.’s Coachchella in May to Japan’s Summersonic in August, Orbital will perform for its loyal fans across the globe. Glastonbury has granted Orbital the opportunity of headlining its “Other Stage” on the 40th anniversary of the festival’s existence, an honour that the band was delighted to have bestowed upon it.
